双螺杆挤压膨化机具有两个相互啮合并同方向旋转的一对螺杆，它们共同起着输送、摩擦挤压和加热的作用，靠着正位移原理输入物料，进行强制输送，很少形成压力回流，从而较好的解决了单螺杆挤压式膨化机上这方面的问题，强力输送。膨化机集压缩、混合、混炼、剪切、熔融、杀菌、膨化、成型等多种功能一体，在极短的时间内全部完成。模具的变换可以无限变换产品的形态和尺寸，双螺杆膨化机可以生产线食品品种繁多，可生产休闲小吃食品、早餐谷物食品、夹心膨化食品、即溶米粉、汤料、面包片、组织化植物蛋白、糖果、调味组分、宠物食品、鱼虾饲料等，并且可以开发出无数种新型食品。
现有双螺杆挤压膨化机稳定住的型号有4种（根据客户要求不同，会有所改动）：
DL56-III为最典型的经典机型，应用广泛，价格低廉，产量适中，十分适合中小型企业创业及稳定期使用。其中56为螺杆中心距尺寸。
DL65-II型为组织化植物蛋白常用机型，产量较DL56-III型高出不少。其中65为螺杆外径直径尺寸。
DL70-II型为新型通用型高产量挤压膨化机，为现在市场最热销的主机，其生产膨化食品（宠物食品、鱼饲料等）有着广泛的应用。其中70为螺杆外径直径尺寸
DL85-II型主要用于生产大产量的膨化食品和宠物食品等，为市场较高端的主机，效率高，产量高。其中85为螺杆外径直径尺寸。
单螺杆挤压膨化机的螺杆带有锥度，因此与套筒之间有不等的间隙存在，在螺杆旋转时将物料向前推挤，产生剪切的变形及内摩擦，使机械能变为热能和变性能。单螺杆挤压膨化机能够生产各种面食产品，现在所能生产的米粉，空心粉等产品技术已经成熟。
单螺杆挤压膨化机现在基本通用型号DL3000-100单螺杆，主要用于生产各种面食、油炸食品、米粉、通心粉、意大利面等产品，产量稳定，操作简单方便。其中3000为螺杆长度，100为螺杆外径直径。
